OpenDNS activated its London (UK) DNS cache servers yesterday besides their other 4 locations in USA. Probably this makes them faster for many users especially in Europe. However, since Egypt biggest Internet DSL providers (Tedata.net and Link.net) AFAIK are currently routed through flagtel.com (London), it will be even faster for us here in Egypt and seems to be more stable than our own ISP DNS servers.
OpenDNS provides us with a safer, faster and smarter DNS service, they provide typo correction and phishing protection. You can go to OpenDNS.com for details.
To use openDNS you just have to change your preferred DNS servers to
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
OpenDNS.com has tutorials for different Operating systems and routers.
Notes:
1. OpenDNS makes money by offering clearly labeled advertisements alongside organic search results when the domain entered is not valid and not a typo that they can fix.
2. I am not pretty sure if Link.net customers are only routed through Flagtel (London, UK) only since some traffic seems to be routed through Alter.net (NYC, USA)
3. When my ISP DNS cache server works it is faster than openDNS (Query time) but it is often loaded (timeout).
